How this list was compiled: Sheet layout and key written for this site in October 2026, in our own words. Classic whist is a traditional game; the figures were checked on 2026-10-13 against the card game rules site Pagat, https://www.pagat.com/whist/whist.html: four players in two fixed partnerships, 13 tricks a deal, 1 point for each trick over six to the side that won more, a game of 5 points, the rubber as the best of three games in Britain, 7 points as the customary American game, long whist to 10, honors as the ace, king, queen and jack of trumps worth 4 for all four and 2 for three, no honors for a side that starts the deal on 4, tricks scored before honors, the last card dealt turned up for trumps and the fixed order of hearts, diamonds, spades, clubs used at whist drives. English Wikipedia, Whist, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whist, was read the same day for the odd trick, the game of five and the rubber of British short whist, the American game of seven, and 2 and 4 for honors. The most hands a game can take (9 to 5 points, 13 to 7) is our own arithmetic: every deal gives one side at least 1 point for tricks. The six hand lines a game are our choice of length. How it works
This whist score sheet is for classic partnership whist: four players, two sides, thirteen tricks a hand. It scores a point for every trick over six, in games to 5 across a rubber.

Type the tricks, hand by hand
Each side has a column, with a box at the top for the two partners' names. After each hand, type the tricks each side took; a line whose tricks do not come to 13 says so. Each game has six lines, with Add a hand for more, and the last row counts games won.
Playing to 7, or with honors
Playing the American game? American game: first to 7 is one game on a running score. If your table counts honors, With honors adds a small box beside the tricks: type 4 or 2 in it.
Print blank sheet gives three games of six hands on one page, with a ruled box for tricks and one for the score.
A side on 4 points cannot win the game on honors. It needs an odd trick.
Questions and answers
How do you score whist?
After all 13 tricks are played, the side that took more scores 1 point for each trick over six: 8 tricks are 2 points and all 13 are 7. The other side scores nothing for tricks on that hand.
How many points win a game of whist?
It depends on where you play. British short whist is 5 points, usually as a rubber, the best of three games. In America 7 was customary, and the older long whist was played to 10.
What are honors in whist?
The jack, queen, king and ace of trumps. A side dealt all four between its two hands claims 4 extra points after the play, and a side with three claims 2. Many players no longer count them.
How many hands are in a game of whist?
There is no fixed number. A game to 5 can end in a single hand, when one side takes 11 tricks or more, and it cannot outlast nine, because every hand gives one side at least a point.
