How this list was compiled

Sheet layout and key written for this site in October 2026, in our own words. Pig is a folk dice game with no governing body. Checked on 2026-10-13 against English Wikipedia, Pig (dice game), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pig_%28dice_game%29: a roll of 2 to 6 joins the turn total, a 1 ends the turn with nothing, holding adds the turn total to the score, the first player to 100 or more wins, hold at 20 as a popular strategy, and Two-dice Pig (the sum of both dice when neither is a 1, a single 1 ends the turn with nothing, two 1s lose the whole score, and the sub-variation where a double must be rolled again). The 20 turn rows are our choice of length, not a rule; the minus entry for two 1s is how this sheet takes a score back to zero. Licence: own work

How it works

On this pig dice game score sheet you type the turn total you held, or 0 when a 1 ended the turn, and it keeps each player's running score to 100.

One number a turn

Pig needs nothing written until a turn ends, so each turn is one number in your next row. Your score so far shows under each box, and the line under the sheet says who has reached 100. Twenty turns are on the sheet, and Add a turn gives one more.

Scoring two-dice Pig

With two dice you add both when neither shows a 1. A single 1 ends the turn for 0, and two 1s wipe out everything you have banked. On Two-dice Pig, type minus your score for that turn, so the running score goes back to 0.

  • Print blank sheet prints the turn rows for the players on screen with the rules underneath. For a class, print one scorecard for each pair.

Questions and answers

How do you keep score in the pig dice game?

Add up each roll in your head as the turn total. When you hold, write that total on the sheet and add it to your score. When a 1 comes up first, write 0. Only held points count.

How many points do you need to win Pig?

100. The first player whose score reaches 100 or more wins. A turn total counts only once you hold, so a player on 95 still has to hold a turn of 5 or more.

When should you hold in Pig?

A popular rule is hold at 20: roll until the turn total is 20 or more, then stop. A computer analysis of the two-player game found holding at 25 more effective.
