This quiz night answer sheet gives every team numbered lines to write on, a box for the marker's points and a line for the team name. It opens on a whole-night sheet of six rounds of ten. The list above it holds nine more layouts, from a five-answer hand-in slip to picture and music rounds. Print them blank, or type the answers on screen.

Pick a layout, then print it blank

Choose a layout from the list above the sheet. Whole night: 6 rounds of 10 keeps a team's evening together and runs to three pages, because every answer gets a full-width line. Hand-in slip: 10 answers suits a pub quiz marked round by round, with a points box for the marker and a joker box under the last line. Print blank sheet prints the sheet alone on Letter or A4, with the team name line at the top. Set the copies to teams times rounds.

Slips or one sheet: two ways to mark a quiz

Rules vary from room to room, so treat these as options. With slips, teams hand in after every round, someone marks while the next round is read, and the host can call out running scores. With one sheet, teams swap papers with the next table at the end and mark as the answers are read. Slips stop late changes. One sheet means less paper to chase. Two hand-in slips on one page halves the printing: cut each page across the middle.

Typing answers on screen, and what the browser keeps

A team on a video call can fill the sheet in on screen. Type the team name over the words at the top, fill the lines, and let the marker type the points. The whole-night sheets total themselves, and on the six-round one the joker round counts twice once its number is in the joker box. Print this game prints the filled sheet. Everything typed stays in that browser until New game clears it, and Undo brings it back. Nothing is sent to the host.

Tips

  • Pub trivia answer sheets take a beating. Print two spares for every table, because someone always spills something by round three.
  • Ask teams to write the team name the same way on every slip. Two spellings look like two teams to a tired marker.
  • A bar trivia answer sheet gets written on against a knee. Hand out clipboards, or a menu to lean on, and pens that still work.
  • Have every team write a tie-break guess before round one, from our tie-breaker questions. If two teams finish level, nobody waits.
  • Number the pictures on your handout 1 to 10 so they match the lines of the Picture round slip.

Questions and answers

How many rounds and questions should a quiz night have?

There is no official format, so these are our editors' suggestions. Six rounds of ten fills an evening, which is why the sheet opens on it. Eight rounds suits a longer night, and rounds of five keep a family quiz moving. For an odd length, print a longer slip and leave lines empty.

Can I print two or four answer slips on one page?

Two, with Two hand-in slips on one page. It prints two ten-answer slips, one above the other, each with its own team name line, round box, points box and joker box, and you cut across the middle. Four to a page is not built.

How is this different from the trivia score sheet?

This page is what the teams write on. The trivia score sheet is the host's tally, with teams down the side and rounds across the top. Most nights use both: the marker writes each slip's points in its box, and the host copies that number onto the tally.

Does it work as a pub quiz answer sheet for music and picture rounds?

Yes. Music round slip: title and artist has two lines for each of ten tracks and is marked out of 20, so a team that knows the song and not the singer still takes a point. Picture round slip has ten lines labeled Picture 1 to Picture 10, to match a numbered handout.

How does the joker box work?

A joker doubles one round of a team's choosing. On a slip, the team ticks the box before the round is read and the marker doubles the points. On the six-round sheet the team writes its joker round's number instead. Nothing stops a team ticking two jokers, so the marker still checks.

Are these trivia answer sheets printable in black and white?

Yes. Every trivia answer sheet here prints black on white with ruled boxes, on US Letter or A4, and nothing else on the page prints with it. The short marking rules under most layouts print too, so teams can see how points and the joker work.

The top of the sheet 4

  • Round number or name Write the round the way the host announced it, "3" or "Music", so a slip that falls out of the pile can be put back in the right one.
  • Round number or name, lower slip The round box of the second slip on the two-to-a-page layout.
  • Table number Only on the whole-night sheets. It tells the marker where to bring the sheet back to.
  • Team name, lower slip The second slip on the two-to-a-page layout needs the team name again, because the page is cut in half before the slips are handed out.

  • Answer One line for each question, numbered the way the host reads them out. The slips come with 5, 10, 15 or 20 lines. A box takes up to 40 characters on screen and is never added up.
  • Answer, lower slip The ten lines of the second slip on the two-to-a-page layout.
  • Picture For a picture round: ten numbered lines that match the numbers on the picture handout. Name the person, place, flag or object shown.
  • Track For a music round: two lines for each of ten tracks, one for the title and one for the artist, so a team that knows only half of it can still score.

Points, joker and totals 17

  • Joker bonus Worked out on screen: the points of the round named in the joker box, counted a second time. On paper the marker writes it in.
  • Joker on this round? Tick here A team that plays its joker ticks this box before the first question of the round is read, and the marker doubles the points for the round. Leave it empty if your quiz has no joker.
  • Joker on this round? Tick here, lower slip The joker box of the second slip on the two-to-a-page layout.
  • Joker played on round number On the six-round whole-night sheet the team writes the number of its joker round here, 1 to 6, before that round begins. It is never added to the total itself.
  • Points for the music round Out of 20: a point for each title and a point for each artist.
  • Points this round The box the marker fills in. It expects a number from 0 to the number of lines on the slip and takes halves. A number outside that is flagged and kept, because house rules exist.
  • Points this round, lower slip The marker's box on the second slip of the two-to-a-page layout.
  • Round 1 points Filled in by the marker after round 1: one point for each correct answer, and halves if the host gives them.
