Scoring key

Fifteen in the play 2
Bring the running count to exactly 15 and peg 2.
Thirty-one in the play 2
Exactly 31 pegs 2. The count restarts at zero, and pairs or runs do not carry across.
Go, or the last card short of 31 1
1 when nobody can play without passing 31, and 1 for the last card of the deal. An exact 31 scores its 2 instead.
Pair, pair royal, double pair royal 2 / 6 / 12
In the play or the show. Three of a kind is three pairs, so 6. Four of a kind is six pairs, so 12.
Run in the play, in any order 1 a card
Three to seven cards in sequence, 1 each. Order is free (4, 6, 5) if no other card falls between them.
His heels: a jack turned up as starter 2
The dealer pegs 2 at once, before a card is played. The game can end on it.
Each fifteen in the show 2
Every different set of cards adding to 15. Face cards count 10 and an ace counts 1.
Run of three, four or five in the show 3 / 4 / 5
1 per card. Count the longest run, then again for each duplicate card.
Double runs, pairs included 8/10/15/16
Double run of three 8, of four 10, triple run 15, double-double run 16. Fifteens are extra: 4-4-5-5-6 is 24.
Flush: four in hand, five with the starter 4 / 5
Four hand cards of one suit score 4, or 5 with a matching starter. A crib flush needs all five cards.
His nobs: the jack of the starter suit 1
A jack in hand or crib matching the starter suit: 1.
Highest hand: 5-5-5-J and a 5 starter 29
Jack in the starter suit: 16 for fifteens, 12 for the fives, 1 for nobs. No hand or crib can score 19, 25, 26 or 27. We checked all 12,994,800 hands and starters.
Counting order: non-dealer, dealer, crib
Non-dealer first, then the dealer hand, then the crib. Play stops at 121, so the order decides close games.
Skunk: the loser finishes on 90 or less 3 not 2
A win by 31 or more. Tournaments record it as 3 game points, not 2. Hole 90 is called the stink hole.

Free Printable Cribbage Score Sheet With a Skunk Line: how it works

When the peg board is missing, this free printable cribbage score sheet does its job on paper or a phone. Every deal gets one line with boxes for pegging, hand and crib, and a running total climbs to 121 for two to four players. Two more rows show the holes left and the distance to the skunk line at 91.

Fill in one line per deal

Press Add a player for a third or fourth column and rename the headings; partners share one. Tally pegging in pencil during the play, then type the sum in Pegging, with the dealer's 2 for a jack starter included. After the show, type your Hand, and the dealer types the Crib. Each box counts as soon as it is filled. The sheet flags a hand of 19, 25, 26 or 27, which no four cards and a starter can make.

Counting order, 121 and the skunk

The non-dealer shows first, then the dealer's hand, then the crib, and the game stops the moment anyone reaches 121. Near the end that order decides it: a non-dealer who needs 6 and holds 8 wins before the dealer counts a card. A loser on 90 or less is skunked. American Cribbage Congress tournaments record that win as 3 game points against 2, which the Tournament match: 2 and 3 sheet tallies.

Tips

  • Print blank sheet gives a printable cribbage score sheet on Letter or A4 with the scoring key under the grid.
  • Pegged out during the play? Type the pegging and leave Hand and Crib empty. The line still counts.
  • Count every hand in the same order: fifteens, pairs, runs, flush, nobs. A double run of three is 8 before any fifteens.

Questions and answers

What is the highest hand in cribbage?

29: three fives and a jack in hand, with the fourth five turned up in the jack's suit. That is 16 for fifteens, 12 for the four fives and 1 for nobs. We checked all 12,994,800 hands and starters, and none scores 19, 25, 26 or 27.

What counts as a skunk?

Winning while the loser is still short of 91. A double skunk, with the loser short of 61, is a house rule. Free-play tables often score 1 match point for a win, 2 for a skunk and 4 for a double skunk, as the Free-play match: 1, 2 and 4 sheet does.

Can the crib score a four-card flush?

No. Four hand cards of one suit score 4, and 5 if the starter matches. The crib counts a flush only when all five cards match. The jack of the starter's suit is worth 1 in hand or crib.

  • Cribbage deal One line per deal. Pegging is everything you pegged during the play, with the dealer's 2 for a jack starter included. Hand is your four cards counted with the starter. Only the dealer fills Crib. Each box counts as soon as it is filled, so a player who pegs out during the play leaves the rest of the line empty.
  • Cribbage total, first to 121 wins Every deal added together: the hole your front peg would stand in. The game ends the moment a player reaches 121, even in the middle of the play or the show.
  • Holes left to peg out at 121 121 less the total, and never below zero. A non-dealer who needs fewer points than the hand is worth wins before the dealer counts.

  • Tournament game: 2 for a win, 3 for a skunk One line per game of a match. The winner types 2, or 3 when the loser finished on 90 or less, and the loser types 0. These are the game points the American Cribbage Congress records.

How this list was compiled: Written by the editors. Card values, pegging and show scores, his heels and his nobs, the flush rule, the 29 hand, the impossible scores, the deal for two, three and four players, the counting order, the skunk and double skunk lines and the two match-point scales were checked on 2026-09-18 against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rules_of_cribbage. The 121 game hole, the skunk as a win by 31 or more, the stink hole at 90, game points of 2 and 3, the counting order and muggins as the only optional rule were checked on 2026-09-18 against the American Cribbage Congress rule book at https://www.cribbage.org/NewSite/rules/rulebook_2025.pdf. The list of scores a hand or crib can make (0 to 29 without 19, 25, 26 and 27) was computed by the editors from all 12,994,800 combinations of a four-card hand and a starter, and matches both sources. The number of deal lines (15) and game lines (12) is our choice, not a rule. Licence: own work
