Scoring key

Went out, or every card in a set or run 0
Ace caught in your hand 1
A 2 to a 10 caught in your hand its number
Jack 11, queen 12, king 13 11, 12, 13
Some tables count all three at 10. Settle it before the first deal.
Sets of a rank, runs in a suit: three or more
Aces are low: ace, 2, 3 is a run and queen, king, ace is not. A card counts in one set or run only.
When someone goes out, everyone else has one turn
Then each player counts the cards outside their sets and runs. Melding the whole hand on that turn scores 0 too.
No adding cards to another player's sets or runs
A card that would fit a neighbor's run still counts against you.
One deck for two players, two for three or four
Jokers out. A bigger table adds a deck so the stock does not run dry.
House rule: jokers stay in as wild cards 20
A joker caught in your hand then costs 20.

How this list was compiled

Sheet layout and key written for this site in October 2026, in our own words. Three Thirteen is a traditional rummy game with no governing body, so tables differ and the key says where. Checked on 2026-10-13 against English Wikipedia, Three thirteen, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_thirteen: the eleven rounds, three cards each in the first and one more each round up to thirteen, the wild rank equal to the number of cards dealt (jacks, queens and kings with eleven, twelve and thirteen), the card values (ace 1, a 2 to a 10 its number, jack 11, queen 12, king 13), the one extra turn after a player goes out, 0 for a player who goes out, the lowest total winning, and the house rules: picture cards at 10, jokers as wild cards at 20, an ace at 15 where it may be high, the 14-card and 15-card rounds with aces and 2s wild, 22 rounds up and back, the last three rounds doubled and 20 for going out wrongly. Checked the same day against the card game rules site Pagat, https://www.pagat.com/rummy/3-13.html: one deck for two players and two for three or four, aces low in a run, twin cards in a set, no laying off on another player's cards, and its own count of 10 for each picture card. • Print blank sheet puts all eleven rounds and the card values on one page, with a column for each player on screen.
  • Playing past kings? Thirteen rounds adds the 14-card and 15-card deals, and Up and back: 22 rounds deals back down to three.

Questions and answers

How do you keep score in 3-13?

After each round, every player adds up the cards left outside sets and runs and writes the number in their column. Whoever went out writes 0. Scores carry from round to round, and the lowest total after round eleven wins.

How many rounds are in Three Thirteen?

Eleven. Round one deals three cards each and every round deals one more, up to thirteen. The wild rank matches the cards dealt: 3s first, then up to 10s, then jacks, queens and kings.

Are face cards worth 10 in 3-13?

It depends on the table. One count gives a jack, queen and king 10 each; the other gives 11, 12 and 13. Both are played, and the sheet adds whatever you type, so agree before round one.

Do you use jokers in Three Thirteen?

Not in the standard game: the jokers come out of the deck. Some tables leave them in as extra wild cards, and a joker caught in your hand then costs 20.
