Scoring key

Each player keeps a card of their own
After every game both partners write down what their side scored. The card goes with the player to the next table.
Points in a hand: 1, 2 or 4 to one side
The side that named trump scores 1 for three or four tricks and 2 for all five; a player going alone who takes all five scores 4. If it takes fewer than three, the other side scores 2.
The head table's bell ends every game 8 hands
The head table plays eight hands, so each player there deals twice, then rings the bell. The other tables finish the hand they are on and write down their scores.
Winners move up one table
The pair that won moves to the next table toward the head table. The winners at the head table stay.
Head table losers go to the last table
The pair that lost at the head table starts the next game at the bottom of the room.
A new partner every game
One of the two losers who stay at a table changes seat, so the partners of one game are opponents in the next.
Ten games, then add the cards 10
After the tenth game everyone adds up. The format names two results: the high score and the low score.
Scoring by games won instead 1 or 0
Type 1 for a game your side won and 0 for a game it lost. The total is then your games won.
An older way to end a game: 5 points 5
An older rule book ends the game when a side at the head table reaches 5. Everyone stops at the bell, even in the middle of a deal, and tables that pass 5 before it keep counting.
Level at the bell
The same older book settles a table that is level when the bell rings with one more hand: the side that takes more tricks in it wins the game.

How this list was compiled: The layout of both sheets is our own and copies no printed card. Checked on 2026-10-16 against the section Progressive of the article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bid_Euchre for the head table's bell at the start, eight hands at the head table with each player dealing twice, the bell again, the other tables finishing their hand, the team score written on each player's own tally, the losers at the head table moving to the last table, the winners elsewhere moving up, one loser changing seat so partners become opponents, ten games and the high and the low score. The points of a hand (1, 2 or 4 to one side) were checked the same day at https://www.pagat.com/euchre/euchre.html, which also calls the format where partners change every game progressive. The older game of 5 points at the head table, play stopping at the bell, the head table's winners keeping their seats and the extra hand for a level table are from the chapter Progressive Euchre of Foster's Complete Hoyle at https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/53881, read the same day. Parties differ, so agree the length of a game before the first deal. Licence: own work

How it works

These progressive euchre score cards are for a party where partners change after every game. Each column is one player's card: ten games and a running total. A second sheet is the host's: the whole room on one page.

Fill in a card when the bell rings

Type a name in the box at the top of each card. When the bell ends a game, type the points your side scored in it; your partner types the same number. Your total so far shows under each game. Ten games are on the card, and Add a game gives one more.

One sheet for the whole room

Host's tally: every player lists the players down the side with the ten games across. Type the points from each card as the games end and the sheet marks who leads. It opens with twelve players, three tables, and Add a player puts another under the last, up to 20.

  • Number the tables before the first deal. Table 1 is the head table, the one with the bell.
  • Handing out paper cards? Take the columns down to one and print a copy for each player, so every card has its own game numbers.

Questions and answers

How do you score progressive euchre?

After each game both partners write their side's points on their own cards. A hand scores as in any euchre game: 1, 2 or 4 to one side. After the last game everyone adds up, and the highest total wins.

How do players move in progressive euchre?

The winners at each table move up one table, and the head table's winners stay where they are. Its losers go to the last table. One of the two losers who stay changes seat, so last game's partners are now opponents.

How long is a game of progressive euchre?

In the format this card follows, the head table plays eight hands, each player dealing twice, then rings the bell, and the other tables finish the hand they are on. An older rule book ends the game when a head-table side reaches 5 points.

How many games are in a progressive euchre party?

Ten in the format this card follows, which is why it opens with ten lines. Nothing stops a host from playing fewer or more: the card loses a line or gains one to match.
