Scoring key

High: the highest trump in play 1
To the side that was dealt it. It is not always the ace.
Low: the lowest trump in play 1
Pagat gives it to the side that wins it in a trick. Wikipedia's table gives it to the side dealt it. Settle that first.
Jack: the jack of trumps 1
Won in a trick. If it was never dealt, nobody scores it.
Game: the most card points in tricks 1
Each ten 10, ace 4, king 3, queen 2, jack 1, in any suit. The deck holds 80. A tie means nobody scores game.
Made bids score the take; a set costs the bid
Bid 2 and take 3: score 3. Fall short and the bid comes off, below zero if need be. Defenders always score their take.
Smudge: a bid of 5 5
All four points and all six tricks. Lose one trick and it is minus 5. A bid of 4 that wins everything still scores 4.
Going out: 21, on a hand you bid and made 21
Pagat's rule. A side that passes 21 while defending, or while set, plays on, so check who bid when the sheet marks 21.
Check: a hand pays 2, 3 or 4 points in all
High and low always score. Jack and game can go unscored.
Bids: 2, 3, 4 or smudge, in one round
Dealer may match the top bid and must bid 2 if all pass.

Pitch Score Sheet for 4-Point, Cutthroat and 10-Point Games: how it works

This free pitch score sheet does the set-back arithmetic. Type the winning bid and the points each side made. A made bid scores every point taken, a short one comes off as minus the bid, and the first side to 21 is marked. Cutthroat and 10-point sheets are included.

Fill in a hand

Rename the team headings; three pairs can press Add a team. After each hand the bidding side types its bid in Bid and the other side leaves it blank. Both type what they took in Made: high, low, jack and game, 1 each. Bid 3 and take 2, and the sheet scores minus 3. For a smudge type 5 and 5, only if all six tricks came in. A hand that does not add to 2, 3, 4 or 5 is flagged, and the last row counts each side's sets.

Pitch arithmetic worth knowing

High and low score every hand, so a hand pays at least 2. Four players hold only 24 of the 52 cards, so the jack of trumps is often still in the deck, and a tied count leaves game unscored. With no set-backs a game to 21 cannot outlast 21 hands. Pagat's rule: you win only on a hand you bid and made. A side that reached 24 defending has not won, and if the side on 18 bids 3 and makes it, it wins 21 to 25.

Tips

  • Playing alone? Cutthroat: every player alone, to 11 starts with 4 columns; Add a player takes it to 7.
  • Settle low before dealing: pagat gives it to the side that captures it, Wikipedia to the side dealt it.
  • Print blank sheet gives 21 hand rows with the four points and the going-out rule underneath.

Questions and answers

Is there a 10 point pitch score sheet here?

Yes. 10-point pitch: bids 2 to 10, to 21 follows pagat's Oklahoma rules: the usual four points, the off-jack and two jokers score 1 each and the three of trumps scores 3. For a longer game switch to 10-point pitch: long game to 52.

What happens on the sheet when the bidder is set?

The bidding side scores nothing and loses its bid, so a score can drop below zero, which players call being in the hole. The other side still scores what it took. Type the points really made; the sheet works out the minus.

Do we have to play to 21?

No. Wikipedia treats 11 as the usual game and lists 7, 9, 15 and 21 as common. Each sheet's target is fixed, so for another number use the nearest sheet and stop at your score. The totals stay right; only the mark is off.

Partnership rows 3

  • Hands this side was set Counts the hands that came out as a minus. Tables that star every set, or settle up for each one, can read the number here.
  • Pitch game score, set-backs taken off Adds every hand above it. A set-back is already a minus, so the score can sit below zero, which pitch players call being in the hole.
  • Pitch hand: the bid and the points made Only the side that won the bid fills in Bid; the other side leaves it blank. Both sides type the points they took in Made, even a bidder who fell short: the sheet turns a short hand into minus the bid.

Cutthroat rows 3

  • Cutthroat hand: the bid and the points made One player fills in Bid. Everyone types the points they took, 0 included, so the sheet can check the hand. Wikipedia lets the bidding open at 1; pagat starts it at 2.
  • Cutthroat score, set-backs taken off Each player scores alone. With four players, no set-backs and the first past 11 winning, the game cannot outlast 21 hands: 10 points each is 40, and every hand pays at least 2.
  • Hands this player was set Counts the hands that came out as a minus for this player.

10-point pitch 12

  • 10 points a hand: seven singles and a 3 High, low, jack, off-jack, high joker, low joker and game score 1 each. The three of trumps scores 3.
  • 10-point bids: 2 up to 10, no smudge One round, and the dealer may not steal the bid. A made bid scores the whole take; a set costs the bid.
  • 10-point game score, set-backs taken off Adds every hand above it. At 10 points a hand a game to 21 can be over in 3 hands; a game to 52 needs at least 6.
  • 10-point hand: the bid and the points made The bidding side types its bid, from 2 to 10, or to 7 without the trey. Every side types the points it took. Any total from 2 to 10 can happen, so the sheet checks each box but not the hand as a whole.
  • 10-point hands this side was set Counts the hands that came out as a minus.
  • Deal: 9 cards to four players, 8 to six 54 cards with two jokers you can tell apart. After trump is named everyone gets down to six cards.
  • Game: the card count or the ten of trumps Count tens, aces, kings, queens and jacks as usual, or give it to whoever wins the ten of trumps. Pick one.
  • Long game: first to 52, minimum bid 4 Pagat's other ten-point game. There a made bid scores the bid, not the take: type your bid as Made if you play that.
  • Low stays with the side that was dealt it It scores for its holder whoever wins the trick.
  • Off-jack: the other jack of the trump colour With clubs trump it is the jack of spades. Trumps rank A K Q J, off-jack, high joker, low joker, 10 down to 2.
  • Shoot the moon: a bid for all ten In the 52 game, made wins the game outright, or lifts a minus score to zero. Missed loses it. Settle that by hand.
  • Trey: optional, or play 7 points a hand Without the 3 for the three of trumps there are 7 points to bid for and bids stop at 7.

High, low, jack and game 4

  • Game: the most card points in tricks Each ten 10, ace 4, king 3, queen 2, jack 1, in any suit. The deck holds 80. A tie means nobody scores game.
  • High: the highest trump in play To the side that was dealt it. It is not always the ace.
  • Jack: the jack of trumps Won in a trick. If it was never dealt, nobody scores it.
  • Low: the lowest trump in play Pagat gives it to the side that wins it in a trick. Wikipedia's table gives it to the side dealt it. Settle that first.

Bids, sets and going out 7

  • Bids: 2, 3, 4 or smudge, in one round Dealer may match the top bid and must bid 2 if all pass.
  • Check: a hand pays 2, 3 or 4 points in all High and low always score. Jack and game can go unscored.
  • Cutthroat game: first to 11 Wikipedia's usual target; 7, 9, 15 and 21 are also played. Everyone scores alone and the table gangs up on the bidder.
  • Going out: 21, on a hand you bid and made Pagat's rule. A side that passes 21 while defending, or while set, plays on, so check who bid when the sheet marks 21.
  • Made bids score the take; a set costs the bid Bid 2 and take 3: score 3. Fall short and the bid comes off, below zero if need be. Defenders always score their take.
  • Smudge: a bid of 5 All four points and all six tricks. Lose one trick and it is minus 5. A bid of 4 that wins everything still scores 4.
  • Two players out in one hand: count in order Bidder's points first, then high, low, jack, game.

Checked on 2026-09-18 against https://www.pagat.com/allfours/pitch.html (page last updated 1 May 2021): Partnership Pitch with six cards each, bids of two, three, four and smudge as a bid of five needing all six tricks, the dealer stealing the bid and the force bid of two, high to the side holding the highest trump in play, low to the side winning the lowest trump in a trick, jack to the side winning it and unscored when not dealt, game on card values of ten 10, ace 4, king 3, queen 2, jack 1 with 80 in the deck and no point on a tie, a made bid scoring the points made, five scored only when smudge was bid, the opponents always scoring what they make, a set side losing the value of its bid with negative scores allowed, 21 to win and only at the end of a hand in which the side made its bid, and the 18 against 24 example. Oklahoma Ten Point Pitch from the same page: four or six players in teams of two, 52 cards plus a high and a low joker, the trump ranking with off-jack and jokers, nine cards to four players and eight to six, low scored by the side that holds it, off-jack and both jokers at 1 each, the optional 3 for the three of trumps making ten points or seven, game by card count or by the ten of trumps, bids from two to the number of points available, no stealing the bid, scoring and winning as in the basic game with no smudge; and the second ten-point version with a minimum bid of four, the bidding side winning the points it bid, game at 52 and the shoot the moon bid. Cutthroat from the same page: the same bidding and play with each player scoring alone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_(card_game) was read the same day for low going to the original owner in its points table, the minimum bid of 1 with 2 as a variation, a bid of four being called smudge or shoot the moon, a set pitcher receiving none of the points, the order of counting when more than one player reaches the target (the pitcher first, then high, low, jack, game), 11 as the usual target with 7, 9, 15 and 21 also played, the partnership game typically to 21, three teams of two as a partnership form, and 'in the hole' for a negative score. The 21-hand ceiling with no set-backs, the 2 to 5 range a four-point hand can pay, the shortest games and the 24 cards in play were worked out and asserted by script here. Licence: own work
