Baby Shower Drawing Game Words, From Crib to Cygnet: how it works

These baby shower drawing game words run from the nursery to the shower itself: 196 words in 8 groups, 25 of them baby animals. Easy cards are objects such as Rattle. Hard ones are sayings such as Bundle of joy. It suits Pictionary-style rounds with grandparents and coworkers at one table. Press Next card to begin.

Run it between the cake and the gifts

Prop a pad of paper on a chair and pick two teams. Hand the phone to the drawer, press Start round and tap +1 for each word guessed inside the minute. The guest of honor can skip the drawing and guess for both teams. For a mixed crowd, tap Easy: those 65 cards are single objects like Crib, Stroller and Rubber duck.

What is in the eight groups

Five groups are baby things, from the nursery to toys. Baby animals has 25 cards, from Duckling to Cygnet, a young swan. The shower itself has 27, from Diaper cake to Sip and see. Baby sayings and milestones is the hard end, with 37 cards such as Baby steps and Spitting image. The whole baby shower drawing game word list is printed under the cards, with a way in beside every word.

Tips

  • For Joey, draw the kangaroo first and the small head in the pouch last. The pouch is the clue, so make it big.
  • Split a saying in two. For Chip off the old block, draw the big block, then the chip with the same face.
  • Give children at the party the Baby animals pill. Those baby drawing game words are ones a child can draw and a grandparent can guess.

Questions and answers

Is any card about the guest of honor's body?

No. No word is about her body, her weight or the birth, and no card asks anyone to guess a measurement. The deck has no drinking cards and names no real people, songs or brands. The hard cards are sayings like Hand-me-downs, hard to draw but never awkward to read out.

Do we need the Pictionary board and cards?

No. Paper, a pen and this page are enough. The drawer may not speak, write letters or numbers, or point at anything in the room, and the team has one minute to guess. These words are our own list. The page is not the official game and is not affiliated with its makers.

Why is Sip and see in a shower deck?

A sip and see is a party the new parents give after the birth, so friends can meet the baby. It sits beside Baby sprinkle, a small shower for a second or later child, and Grandma's shower, where the gifts stay at the grandparents' house.

How this list was compiled: Written for this site by the editors; nothing was copied from another list. Every word is about life with a baby, baby animals or the shower itself, and can be drawn without letters or numbers. US words are used throughout (diaper, stroller, pacifier, crib). The deck was checked against the site's family-safe rule (nothing sexual, no alcohol or drugs, nothing that mocks a person or a group, no real people) and against a second rule for this deck: no word is about the guest of honor's body, her weight or the birth itself, and no card asks anyone to guess her measurements. The deck holds no film, show, book, song, lullaby or nursery rhyme titles, because the site plan keeps titles of works out of datasets, and no brand names (the one-piece with snaps is listed as Baby bodysuit for that reason). Difficulty is an editor's judgment: easy is one object, medium is a small scene, hard is a saying or an idea with no shape of its own. The line beside each word is the editors' way in to the drawing, or the plain meaning of a saying; it is a suggestion, not a rule. Checked against live sources on 2026-09-19: the names for young animals (duckling, cygnet, gosling, joey for kangaroo and koala, fawn, tadpole, owlet, hoglet, hatchling for turtle, pup for seal, chick for penguin, kid, calf for cattle, elephant, whale and giraffe, foal for horse, donkey and zebra, cub for bear, lion, tiger and fox, and caterpillar as the young form of a butterfly) against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animal_names; and six shower cards against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_shower, an article that carries a notice asking for more citations: the word shower is often assumed to mean that the expectant parent is showered with gifts, a diaper cake is a party decoration made from diapers arranged like a tiered cake, cake and finger foods are often served, a shower is typically hosted by a close friend and not by the family, sprinkles are small showers for a subsequent child, a sip and see party is planned by the new parents after the birth so that guests can meet the baby, and a grandma's shower brings items for the grandparents to keep at their house. The shower games in the deck (baby bingo, the photo guessing game, guess the baby food, the diaper raffle, pin the pacifier) are not described in that article on that date and no claim is made about them. That a fawn is spotted and that a penguin chick shelters at its parent's feet are drawing hints in common knowledge, not claims checked against a source. Licence: own work
