Four rounds of Proverbs trivia questions
Finish the proverb gives the first half of a saying. Wisdom, the wise and the fool and Words, work and friends ask what a saying is about: the fool, the tongue, the sluggard, a friend. Solomon, Agur and the virtuous woman covers the words of Agur in chapter 30 and the virtuous woman of chapter 31. Start from, under the question, opens one round.
Why the wording is the KJV's
A finish-the-proverb question works in one translation only, because others end the same verse with other words. Where the King James has safety in the multitude of counsellors, the World English Bible has victory.
- Old words get today's word in the reason: a coney is a hyrax, and meat means food.
Questions and answers
How many chapters are in Proverbs?
Thirty-one. The first opens "The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel", and the last ends with the praise of a virtuous woman.
Who wrote the book of Proverbs?
The text names more than one speaker. It opens with the proverbs of Solomon, says the men of Hezekiah copied out those from chapter 25 on, and gives chapter 30 as the words of Agur and chapter 31 as those of king Lemuel.
Are these Proverbs trivia questions from the King James Version?
Yes. Every quoted proverb is the King James wording, which is in the public domain. Some reasons add the World English Bible's word where it differs, such as boundary stone for landmark and winter for cold.
Are the Proverbs trivia questions suitable for kids?
Many are. The finish-the-proverb round has short sayings a child can guess, such as how a child is known and what a merry heart makes.
