Four rounds on the twelve disciples

The twelve by name works mostly from the lists and the sending out in Matthew 10. Peter, Andrew, James and John follows the four fishers into Acts. Philip, Nathanael, Thomas and Judas is mostly from John's Gospel, and With Jesus, and sent out asks what the disciples did together. Start from, under the question, opens one round.

Why the lists of the twelve differ

The lists do not match name for name. Matthew names Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus, and Luke does not; Luke names Judas the brother of James, and Matthew does not. A question about a name says which Gospel it is from.

  • Among the four Gospels only John names Nathanael, and his name is in none of the lists of the twelve.

Questions and answers

Who were the twelve disciples?

Matthew 10 names Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John the sons of Zebedee, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Lebbaeus Thaddaeus, Simon the Canaanite and Judas Iscariot.

What is the difference between a disciple and an apostle?

Luke 6:13 uses both words: Jesus called his disciples to him, chose twelve of them, and named those twelve apostles. In that verse the apostles are twelve chosen out of a larger company of disciples.

Which disciple replaced Judas Iscariot?

Matthias. Acts 1 says two men were put forward, Joseph called Barsabas and Matthias, and the lot fell upon Matthias, who was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Are these disciple trivia questions from the King James Version?

Yes. Names follow the King James Version, which is in the public domain. Some reasons add the World English Bible's word, such as the Zealot for the Canaanite and tents for tabernacles.
