Pick a part of the Bible

Press Topic. Genesis, Exodus and the wilderness, Joshua, judges and kings, The prophets and Psalms and wisdom sayings are Old Testament. The Gospel story, Parables and sayings and Acts, letters and Revelation are New. Animals and birds takes from both. For a young class choose Easy: one familiar thing on each card, such as Rainbow in the cloud.

Settle a guess with the verse

The list under the deck gives each word's reference and what those verses say: Eleven stars bowing down is Genesis 37:9, a dream of Joseph. The wording follows the World English Bible, which says ship for ark and feeding trough for manger.

Tips
  • Draw the thing, not the person: a basket in the reeds is quicker than a portrait.
  • After each card, ask who can tell the story behind it. The reference is in the list.

Questions and answers

What are good Bible words for a drawing game?

Things with a clear shape from stories most players know: Noah's ark, Burning bush, Two stone tablets, David's harp, Five loaves and two fish, Anchor. All six are Easy cards here. Hard holds details such as Cloud as small as a hand.

Which translation are the words checked against?

The World English Bible, a public domain translation. Every card was read beside its verses in September 2026, and the list gives the reference, so a disputed guess can be looked up in any Bible.

Does anyone have to draw God or Jesus?

No card asks for it. Cards about Jesus name the thing beside him, such as Boat in a wind storm or Basin of water and a towel. The deck also leaves out the crucifixion, the empty tomb and the Last Supper.

Can I print the words for a Sunday school class?

Yes. Finish a round, then press Print these on the end card for slips to cut up, or Copy the list. Slips carry the word only. The verse references are in the list on this page.

How this list was compiled: Written by the Game Night Generator editors for this page: 194 things from the Bible to draw in a draw-and-guess game, in nine topics. Every card is an object, an animal, a plant or a scene that the text itself describes, and each was checked on 2026-09-30 against the World English Bible, a public domain translation, read chapter by chapter at https://ebible.org/engwebp/ (152 chapter pages, for example https://ebible.org/engwebp/GEN08.htm for the dove and the olive leaf, https://ebible.org/engwebp/1KI10.htm for the ivory throne and https://ebible.org/engwebp/LUK15.htm for the lost sheep and the lost coin). Each card keeps a record of the chapter page it was checked against. The line beside each word in the list gives the reference and then the editors' own summary of those verses, or a short quotation from them, and every summary was read beside the verses it cites. Cards use the names most readers know, and the line says where this translation words it differently: ship for ark, feeding trough for manger, stairway for ladder, tunic for coat. No card asks anyone to draw God, and the cards about Jesus name the thing beside him (the boat, the basin and towel, the young donkey), not his face. The deck leaves out the crucifixion, the empty tomb, the bread and cup of the Last Supper, the flames of Pentecost and the ark of the covenant, because those are not things to turn into a guessing game. It has no weapon as a card (the armor card stops at the belt, breastplate, shield and helmet, and David's card is the five stones in the bag), no card about wine or drinking, and no scene of anyone being killed. Two cards a leader may want to know about are Golden calf and Fiery furnace. No card names a living person, a church or a denomination. Levels are the editors' judgment: easy is one familiar thing, medium is a small scene, hard is a detail that only a regular reader will place. Counted on 2026-09-30 against every other list on the site: six words are also squares in the Bible bingo list (Noah's ark, Tower of Babel, Coat of many colors, Burning bush, Fiery furnace, Manger), two are also in the Christmas drawing deck (Manger; Gold, frankincense and myrrh), and no card is worded as a card of the Bible charades deck, which holds scenes to act.
