Math Trivia Questions for Kids, From Googols to Honeycombs: how it works

Read a question aloud, tap the choice the children pick, then press Check answer for the right one and a short reason. There are 234 math trivia questions for kids aged 8 to 12 in 8 topics. Most are facts, not sums: who named the googol, which shape honey bees build in. One topic holds number riddles to work out.

How a round works

Pick a Topic, or leave all eight on for a mixed round. Tap a choice, then press Check answer. The card shows the right answer and a reason a child can follow. Fact questions also link to the Wikipedia article they were checked on. Every question has four choices. Wrong ones wait under Missed for another go. Exam mode asks 20 and scores them at the end.

A 5th grade topic and riddles that need a pencil

The topic 5th grade challenge holds 25 math trivia questions for 5th graders. It follows the grade 5 Common Core areas: parentheses, place value and decimals, fractions, volume, the coordinate plane and sorting shapes. Number riddles has 33 puzzles with one right answer, such as how many squares of every size are on a chessboard. Tips

  • Hand out scrap paper for Number riddles: the snail on the wall and the pencil and eraser each have a tempting wrong answer.

Questions and answers

What ages are these questions for?

Ages 8 to 12. An eight-year-old can say how many tally marks make a bundle. A twelve-year-old may still not know what 'sifr', the root of the word zero, first meant. The 5th grade topic needs fractions and decimals, so leave it off for younger players.

Is this a page of sums to practice?

No. Of the 234 questions, 182 are facts about numbers, shapes, measures, math words and famous puzzles. The other 52 need working out: 33 riddles and 19 sums in the 5th grade topic. It suits a quiz round or a lesson warm-up, not times-table drill.

How do I know the answers are right?

Each fact was checked on September 19, 2026 against the Wikipedia article linked under it, by reading the sentence that states it. The riddles and sums have no article. Each was worked by hand, and a short program then confirmed the answer and confirmed that no wrong choice also fits.

How this list was compiled: Written for this site by the editors; nothing was copied from another list. Every question, wrong choice and explanation is our own wording. Each answer was checked on 2026-09-19 against the English Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org) named and linked beside the question: the article text was fetched that day and the sentence that states the fact was read before the question was kept. Every extra claim in an explanation was checked the same way. Questions whose source reads 'Own work' (the number riddles, and the worked sums in the 5th grade topic) have no article to check. Each was worked through by hand, and a short program then confirmed the answer and confirmed that none of the wrong choices also fits. The 5th grade topic follows the grade 5 domains of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (expressions with parentheses, place value and decimals, fractions, volume, the coordinate plane, classifying shapes), read on 2026-09-19 from https://learning.ccsso.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Math_Standards1.pdf. Questions were dropped or reworded when the article did not state the fact plainly, or when its numbers sat inside a template the fetch could not read: the values of the Roman numeral letters, the first few triangular numbers as a printed list, and a story about a mathematician who gambled. Left out on purpose: living people (so nothing on who proved Fermat's Last Theorem), films, brand names, and records that change, such as the largest known prime.
