How it works
These emoji icebreaker questions are answered by posting emoji in a chat, on a shared screen or on a whiteboard. That suits a quiet video call: everyone answers at once, and nobody has to unmute first.

Run it on a call or in a group chat
Read the card out or paste it into the chat, then give everyone a moment to post. Start on One emoji: "Post one emoji for your desk right now." Pick two answers and ask the people who posted them to explain.
From one press to a guessing game
Press Set to choose. Pick one of four offers four emoji to choose from. Three-emoji stories takes longer: "Tell us your commute in three emoji." In Guess mine one person posts and the group works out the answer.
Tips
- No card asks how anyone is feeling. For a mood check, ask it yourself and let people pass.
- In a room with no screens, hand out sticky notes and have people draw their emoji.
Questions and answers
What are emoji icebreaker questions?
Prompts that are answered with emoji in place of a sentence. One card asks for a single emoji for your weekend; another asks for a film plot in emoji that the group has to guess. They work where typing is easier than talking.
Do the cards name films, songs or shows?
No. Guess mine cards ask players to post a film, a song or a book of their own choosing, so the titles come from the group. The deck itself names none.
Will the emoji on the cards show on every phone?
Only the Pick one of four cards print emoji. Each was checked against the Unicode emoji list and is followed by its meaning in words, so a phone that cannot draw one still shows the word.
