Questions and answers

What is the difference between bacon and ham?

Both are cured pork. Ham comes from the hind portion of the pig and its brine holds more sugar; bacon is cut mostly from the belly or the back and is less sweet.

What does bring home the bacon mean?

To earn a living for a household, or simply to win: Wiktionary lists both senses. The pack also asks about the flitch of bacon given as a prize at Great Dunmow in Essex.

What is Canadian bacon?

In the United States the name is used for back bacon that is cured, smoked and fully cooked, trimmed into round medallions and sliced thick. In Canada, peameal bacon is cured pork loin rolled in cornmeal.

How were the answers checked?

Each was read on October 2, 2026 in the Wikipedia article or Wiktionary entry linked under it. Health, diet and cooking advice are left out, and so are brands.

How this list was compiled

Written for this site; nothing was copied from another list. Questions and wrong choices are our own. Each explanation restates, in our own sentences, facts from the page named and linked beside it. Each answer was checked on 2026-10-02 against that page, fetched that day: articles of the English Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org, text under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license) for 39 of the 42 questions, and entries of Wiktionary (https://en.wiktionary.org) for three sayings and words. Left out on purpose: health, diet and nutrition claims of any kind, food-safety and cooking advice, brands and makers, and which country eats the most. Bacon is cured pork; the pack says so plainly and asks nothing about who may or may not eat it. Levels are our estimate: easy is fair for any table, medium suits a keen cook, hard will stump most tables. Each round is stored easiest first, and each question carries the date its page was read.
