Trivia Tie Breaker Questions and a Numbers Round: how it works
These trivia tie breaker questions all have a number for an answer, and nobody at the table knows it exactly, so the closest guess wins and a tie cannot survive the card. Settle a tie from one phone
Tap All tie-breakers, or one of the five tie-break topics, and read the card to the tied teams. Each team writes one number on a slip and hands it in before anyone speaks. Tap Show answer, read the number out, and work out who is closest. The page does not rank the guesses, so the host does the subtraction. If two teams are the same distance away, press Next question and go again. Medium means a number most people can picture. Hard is a wild guess for nearly everyone.
Closest guess, or closest without going over
Rules vary, so say which one you are playing before the card is read. Closest guess is the usual quiz rule: over or under does not matter, only the distance. Closest without going over is the game-show rule: any guess above the answer is out, and if every team goes over you deal another card. For a year, count the distance in years. Where the answer says about or more than, judge against the figure on the card. Guesses are final once the slips are in.
The numbers round, the printed list and what the phone keeps
For general knowledge questions with numerical answers, tap All numbers round, or one of its four topics: counts, years, measures and how many in a. Deal ten cards, have teams write a number for each, and give a point for the exact answer, or for the closest if you prefer. All 446 questions are printed under the generator with their answers, so a host can copy ten onto paper. With No repeats tonight ticked, a used card stays out. Tips
Choose the tie-breaker before the quiz starts and write it on your running order. A host hunting for a card while two teams wait loses the room.
Ask for the guess in the unit on the card. A team that answers in meters when the card says feet has made its own bad luck.
Hosting a baby shower or a raffle? Tie breaker questions settle any contest: the tied guests each write a number and the nearest one takes the prize.
Collect every team's tie-break guess on the quiz night answer sheet before round one. If the night ends level, you already hold the numbers.
Number trivia questions suit a lightning round. Set the level to Easy, press Start round, and one team calls out as many answers as it can in 60 seconds.
Questions and answers
What makes a good tie-breaker question?
The answer is a number, nobody in the room knows it exactly, and everybody can make a guess. How many windows does the White House have? How many rivets hold the Eiffel Tower together? A question that one quizzer simply knows is a poor tie-breaker, because it rewards memory over judgment. We left out records and anything else that can change.
Does the page work out which team is closest?
Not yet. The card hides the answer until you tap Show answer, and the host compares the guesses by hand. With two tied teams that is one subtraction each. The scoreboard under the card holds up to four teams, so tap +1 for the winner and let the final score stand.
Have the answers been checked?
Each one was read in the Wikipedia article on its subject on September 19, 2026, and the article is recorded beside the question in our data. Where an answer is arithmetic, such as how many dimes stack up to a mile, the extra line under the answer shows the working. If a table has a better source, the host decides.
How do you score number answer trivia questions in a full round?
Two ways. Exact scoring gives a point only for the right number, which suits the Easy and Medium cards: strings on a guitar, sides on a stop sign, the year the Titanic sank. Closest scoring gives the point to the nearest team on every card, which keeps weaker teams in the game and suits the Hard cards.
What happens if two teams are equally close?
Deal another card. Guesses of 100 and 140 are equally close to an answer of 120, and round guesses make that common. Press Next question and repeat. Some hosts break a second tie in favor of the slip handed in first, so collect the slips in order.
