As the name of a dish, taco is a Mexican innovation. In other contexts the Spanish word means a wedge, a plug or a billiard cue. One theory derives the food name from the Nahuatl tlahco, half or in the middle.
What is the difference between a taco and a burrito?
A taco is a small, hand-sized tortilla folded around its filling and eaten by hand. A burrito is often much larger and rolled rather than folded, and is made with a large flour tortilla.
