How to play and score 9

  • 1: Give every player a paper plate and a pen or marker. Sturdy plates stay flat under the pen.
  • 2: Each player holds the plate flat on top of their head. One hand holds the plate, and the other draws.
  • 3: The host reads the script aloud, one line at a time. Wait for the pens to stop before reading the next line.
  • 4: Nobody looks at their plate until the last line has been read. House rule: a player who peeks scores nothing for that line.
  • 5: After the last line, everyone brings the plate down and shows it. Hold all the plates up together before any scoring starts.
  • 6: Swap plates with a neighbor to score. House rule. Players can score their own plates, but a neighbor is a stricter judge.
  • 7: The host reads out the score under each line, and scorers add the points. Every script on this page adds up to 20 points.
  • 8: The highest total wins. House rule for a tie: the room claps for each tied plate, and the loudest clap wins.
  • 9: With young children, skip the points. House rule: the room claps for every plate, and each artist says what they drew.

How this list was compiled: Written for this site on 2026-10-12, in our own words. How the game is played was read on 2026-10-12 in Happy Home Fairy, A Super Fun Christmas Game, https://happyhomefairy.com/a-super-fun-christmas-game/: sturdy paper plates and a pen for each player, the plate held on the head, a host who gives a series of drawing instructions, nobody looking until the instructions end, points counted afterwards from a list, and the most points winning. That post's own six instructions and its points are not used here. Every scene, line and score on these sheets is our own, and each script adds up to 20 points. Swapping plates to score, the rule about peeking, the tie-break and the vote for young children are house rules and are marked as house rules. The game has no official rules. No line names a brand, a show, a song or a real person, and the Snowman script names no holiday. Licence: own work

How it works

This paper plate party drawing game needs a plate and a pen for each player, and one person to read aloud. Each of the six scripts has twelve lines and adds up to 20 points.

Christmas party games: paper plate drawing, line by line

The Christmas script builds a house with a chimney, then flies a sleigh over the roof, so the laughs come from where the reindeer lands. Keep the score lines to yourself until the plates come down.

A snowman paper plate drawing game for a class party

The Snowman script suits a classroom: the players read nothing, and a snowman is a scene children know. It names no holiday, so it fits any winter party. The score lines ask where each part landed, not how well it is drawn, so children can score each other's plates.

  • For a paper plate on head drawing game at Thanksgiving, play while the pie cools: everyone is still at the table.
  • Any line can be changed to fit your party: the guest of honor's name in place of JOY, or your own scene.

Questions and answers

How do you play the Christmas paper plate drawing game?

Each player holds a paper plate on their head with one hand and a pen in the other. The host reads a script: draw a house, then a chimney on its roof. Nobody looks until the last line, and then every plate is scored.

What do you draw in the Thanksgiving paper plate drawing game?

A dinner table: four legs, a platter, a roast turkey with two drumsticks, a pie with steam rising, a bowl of mashed potatoes, a pumpkin underneath and a chair. The last line is the word THANKS above it all.

How does the paper plate drawing game work at a baby shower?

Guests draw a baby part by part: a round head, two eyes, one curl of hair, a body, arms, legs, a diaper, a rattle, a bottle and a blanket. The parent-to-be can also choose a favorite plate, whatever it scored.

What is the paper plate drawing game for a bridal shower?

Guests draw the bride without looking: her head, a veil, the dress, a bouquet, a necklace, two shoes, a train and an arch of flowers. The last line puts the couple's initials inside a heart.

How is the paper plate drawing game scored?

Under every line is its score, such as 2 points if the chimney touches the roof. Players swap plates, the host reads the scores aloud, and each scorer adds up. Every script totals 20. The points are a house rule, so change them freely.
