Easter Bingo for Kids to Print in Black and White: how it works

Press New set of 4 cards and the page deals four Easter bingo cards, no two alike, from 73 short words: the egg hunt, bunnies and chicks, treats, Sunday best and church. Cards start at 4 × 4, 16 squares, which suits a child of about six. The squares hold words, not pictures, so seat a younger child beside a reader.

Call a clue, not a word

Press Call the game, then Call the next one, and the page draws every word once. With children who read well, call the clue beside each word in the list below: a young sheep for Lamb, a spiced bun with a cross on top for Hot cross bun. Some clues are small facts, such as the egg roll held on the White House lawn since 1878. A row, a column or a corner-to-corner line of four wins.

How long a game lasts

In our simulated games on 4 × 4 cards, a class of 25 reached the first line after about 18 calls, and a family of six after about 26. For a shorter game switch Grid to 3 × 3: the same class got there in about 7 calls. After the first win, keep calling for second and third place.

Tips

  • Use jelly beans or buttons as markers. The printed card stays clean for another round, and the winner eats first.
  • Before the first call, have each child draw a picture in three squares. It slows the fast readers and helps the rest find those words.
  • No printer? Press Share these cards and send the link to the other phones. Everyone opens the same set, so give each child a card number.

Questions and answers

Is the Easter bingo printable black and white?

Yes. The cards print as plain line grids with words: no pictures and no color fills, so they photocopy cleanly and children can color a square as they mark it. To spend no color ink at all, choose black and white or grayscale in the print window.

Can a public school class use this list?

Yes, with one edit. The last 13 lines of Word list, one per line are the At church group, from Church to Easter Sunday. A teacher who keeps religion out of the party can delete them and deal again: the 60 words left cover egg hunts, animals, treats and clothes.

What age is this Easter bingo for?

Readers of about six and up can play alone: the longest word has nine letters. For four and five year olds, switch to 3 × 3, pair each child with a reader and call slowly. Words a child may not know, such as Bilby, Kit and Simnel cake, come with a clue to read out.

  • Burrow Rabbits live in nests or burrows. A group of rabbits is called a colony.
