Fun WV history trivia questions in two rounds

Western Virginia before 1863 has two names the region nearly got, Westsylvania and Vandalia. The making of a state asks which other state joined the Union during the Civil War and when the old debt to Virginia was finally paid.

When did West Virginia become a state?

On June 20, 1863, as the 35th state. President Lincoln's proclamation of April 20 admitted it 60 days later. It was one of two states admitted during the Civil War; Nevada was the other.

What was the first capital of West Virginia?

Wheeling, from 1863 to 1870. The capital moved to Charleston, back to Wheeling in 1875, and to Charleston for good in 1885.
