It is the anniversary of the armistice that ended the major fighting of World War I, which went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. The day was called Armistice Day until 1954.

How this list was compiled
Written for this site; nothing was copied from another list. Questions and wrong choices are our own. Each explanation restates, in our own sentences, a fact from the English Wikipedia article named and linked beside the question (https://en.wikipedia.org, text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license): Veterans Day, Armistice Day and Armistice of 11 November 1918. The text of each article was fetched on October 2 or 3, 2026, and on October 3, 2026 the passage that states each fact was read in it before the question was kept. The pack is about the holiday and the armistice it grew from, in a plain voice: no question asks about a battle, a weapon or a count of the dead, and no branch of service has a round. Left out on purpose: living people, company names, and the share of employers that keep the holiday, which changes. One question, on the medal of 1982, is answered by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library's record of the ceremony (reaganlibrary.gov), read on October 3, 2026, because it gives the medal's official name. Levels are our estimate: easy is fair for any table, medium suits people who know some history, hard will stump most tables. Each question also carries the date its article was read (checkedOn).
