Hot Seat Questions: Funny, Deep and Against the Clock: how it works

Hot seat is the party game where one player takes the chair and answers as many questions as they can before time runs out. These 208 hot seat questions are short on purpose, and the seat timer counts the cards each player gets through.

How to run the hot seat from one phone

One player takes the seat and a reader holds the phone. Pick a seat length (30 s, 1 min, 90 s or 2 min) and press Start round. The reader reads each card aloud and presses Next card after the answer. Skip puts a card back and does not count. At the bell the page says "Time is up. 9 cards this round." That number is the seat's score, so note it down: the page does not keep it. Rules vary by group; this version needs no judge.

Where the friends, fun and crazy cards sit

For hot seat questions for friends, pick About this group: what plan has this group talked about for years and never done? Fun hot seat questions sit in Favorites and Hot takes (is a hot dog a sandwich?), and the crazy hot seat questions are in Crazy what-ifs: if you were a ghost, where would you haunt? Easy cards take one word, Medium cards make the player pick a side, and Hard cards take some nerve. The full list under the tool prints all 208 hot seat questions.

Tips

  • Open every seat on Easy so the first answers come fast, then switch to Any level.
  • Turn on Sound so the reader can watch the player instead of the clock.
  • Allow two passes per seat. The reader presses Skip, so a pass never adds to the score.

Questions and answers

What are good hot seat questions?

The best hot seat questions can be answered in five seconds and still tell the room something new. "What would your restaurant serve?" works because nobody needs time to think, yet every answer starts a conversation. Save questions that need a long story for after the bell.

What makes hot seat questions funny instead of awkward?

The seated player should be laughing too. The Funny group asks about harmless things: your wrestling name, your worst kitchen disaster, the noise you make when you stand up. No card asks about a player's body or love life, or about what anyone earns.

Are these hot seat questions deep or light?

Both, and you choose. The Deep group holds 26 deep hot seat questions, from what always cheers you up to what would you like people to say about you when you are not in the room. Give those a two-minute seat. Every other group stays light.

How this list was compiled: Written by the Game Night Generator editors on 2026-09-18; every question is our own wording and no list was copied from anywhere. Each card is asked to the one player in the hot seat and is about that player: favorites, firsts, opinions, plans and their history with the group around them. Nothing asks about a player's body, love life or background, or about what anyone earns or owns, and nothing involves drinking. No card asks for a favorite teacher, a first concert, the name of a pet or a first job, because those answers double as account security answers and a hot seat is often filmed. Levels are ours: easy cards take a one-word answer anyone can give in five seconds, medium cards are a pick that reveals something, and hard cards take a moment of nerve and stay clean. There is no standard reference for this game: on 2026-09-18 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_seat was a disambiguation page that lists no party game, so the page describes one common way to play, says rules vary and claims nothing about where the game comes from. No fact on these cards changes from year to year. Licence: own work
