Civil engineering trivia questions

Civil engineering asks who first called himself a civil engineer, which lighthouse he built, and when the profession got its charter, with the qanat and the Appian Way for the ancient works.

Mechanical engineering trivia questions

Mechanical engineering runs from the pendulum clock to finite element analysis. The electrical engineering trivia questions are few and sit in the last round: the telegraph, Volta, Faraday and Ohm, and the birth of electronics. Simple machines and early inventors is the round for a mixed table.

Tips
  • As trivia questions for engineers, read each one without its choices first; the dates make fair tie-breakers.

How this list was compiled

Written for this site; nothing was copied from another list. Questions and wrong choices are our own. Each explanation restates, in our own sentences, a fact from the English Wikipedia article named and linked beside the question (https://en.wikipedia.org, text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license): Engineering, Civil engineering and Mechanical engineering. The text of each article was fetched on October 2, 2026, and on October 3, 2026 the passage that states each fact was read in it before the question was kept. Left out on purpose: salary and workforce figures (they change), company and product names, machines of war, and anything that reads as design or licensing advice. Levels are our estimate: easy is fair for any table, medium suits people who know the subject, hard will stump most tables. Each question also carries the date its article was read (checkedOn).
