One common way to play
One player is the answerer. Press Topic, pick the round that fits the room, then read each card out and press Next card. The answerer replies honestly or says pass. The deck stops after 12 cards; press 12 more and it ends when all 21 are played. Then the next player answers. 21 questions rules differ from group to group, so agree on passes before the first card.
Five rounds of 21
Round for new friends asks what you pat your pockets for before you walk out the door. Round for old friends and Round for family are about the people in the room. Funny round asks which road sign sums up your week, and Deep round asks what home means to you.
Tips
Two players? Take turns: ask one, answer one, until each of you has answered 21.
House rule: the answerer may throw one question per round back at the asker.
Questions and answers
How do I play 21 questions?
One player answers 21 questions from the others, one at a time, then the next player takes a turn. Most groups allow a pass or two. Nobody scores: the point is to hear the answers and ask why.
What are good questions for 21 questions?
Ones the answerer needs no time to prepare and the group wants to hear more about. "Which boring task do you find oddly relaxing?" works with someone you met today. "What have you never thanked us for?" needs old friends.
Is 21 questions the same game as 20 questions?
No. In 20 questions one player thinks of a thing and the others guess it with yes-or-no questions. In 21 questions nobody guesses: one player answers open questions about themselves. The guessing game has its own page on this site.
Are these questions clean enough for a family table?
Yes. No card asks about a player's body, love life, faith, politics or pay, and none involves drinking. The list is written for friends and family, not for flirting, and every card is about the player who answers.

How this list was compiled
Written by the Game Night Generator editors on 2026-09-30; every question is our own wording and no list was copied from anywhere. The deck is five rounds of 21 questions, and each round runs from quick questions to ones that take some nerve: 7 easy, 8 medium and 6 hard. Every question is about the player who answers it. Nothing asks about a player's body, love life, faith, politics or pay, and nothing involves drinking. No question asks for a pet's name, a school, a teacher, a street, a first job, a childhood nickname or a place of birth, because those answers double as account security answers. Every question was compared by script with every other deck on this site on 2026-09-30: none repeats a question from the hot seat, rapid fire, number question or conversation decks. There is no standard reference for this game: on 2026-09-30 the Wikipedia article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty_questions described the yes-or-no guessing game, which is a different game, so the page describes one common way to play and claims nothing about where the game comes from.
