  • I am a queen with no country. I live in a deck with fifty-one others, and my sign is red. Who am I? Answer: The queen of hearts. A deck has 52 cards, and one of them is the queen of hearts.
  • I am a shape with two round bumps on top and one point below. Fold the paper before you cut me, and both my sides will match. What am I? Answer: A heart. A paper heart is cut on a fold so that its halves mirror each other.
  • I am a sheet of paper with every classmate's name on me. With me, nobody is left without a card. What am I? Answer: The class list. A class list makes sure there is a valentine for everyone.

  • I am red, shiny and shaped like a heart, and I float on a ribbon. Let go of me outdoors, and you will not get me back. What am I? Answer: A balloon. A helium balloon floats away.
  • I am shaped like a heart and made of cardboard. Under my lid, each piece sits in its own paper cup. What am I? Answer: A box of chocolates. Valentine chocolates come in a heart-shaped box.
  • I am the color of a stop sign, a strawberry and nearly every heart on a card. What color am I? Answer: Red. Red is the color of Valentine hearts.
  • I am the last thing you write on a valentine. Without me, nobody knows who to thank. What am I? Answer: Your name. A card is signed with the sender's name.
  • I am the one in the box that gets short first in February. I color in all the hearts. What am I? Answer: The red crayon. Hearts are colored red, so the red crayon wears down.
  • I am what you get when red is mixed with white. In February I am on half the cards in the store. What color am I? Answer: Pink. Red and white make pink.

  • A box holds 3 rows of 4 chocolates. You eat one from every row. How many are left? Answer: 9 chocolates. 3 x 4 = 12, and 12 - 3 = 9.
  • A class of 24 children each bring one card for every other child. How many cards are handed out? Answer: 552 cards. Each child gives 23 cards: 24 x 23 = 552.
  • A florist ties roses in dozens. How many roses are in two and a half dozen? Answer: 30 roses. 12 + 12 + 6 = 30.
  • AND sits in the middle of which sweet treat's name? Answer: Candy. C-AND-Y.
  • How many times does the letter E appear in BE MY VALENTINE? Answer: 3 times. Once in BE and twice in VALENTINE.
  • I am first in VALENTINE and third in LOVE. Which letter am I? Answer: The letter V. V-alentine, and L-O-V-E.
  • I am four letters at the end of a note, two of one kind and two of another. The same two letters are all you need for tic-tac-toe. What am I? Answer: XOXO. Hugs and kisses are written XOXO, and tic-tac-toe is played with X and O.
  • I am the date of Valentine's Day. I am two times seven, and I am half of the days in an ordinary February. What number am I? Answer: 14. 2 x 7 = 14, and 28 / 2 = 14.
  • In the word LOVE, only L and V are Roman numerals. What is their sum? Answer: 55. L is 50 and V is 5.
  • Nearly every valentine opens with one four-letter word. Shuffle its letters, and you have what you do with the card. Which two words are they? Answer: Dear and read. D-E-A-R and R-E-A-D use the same four letters.
  • Put an E after HUG. How big is it now? Answer: Huge. H-U-G plus E.
  • Read me aloud, letter by letter and number by number: U R GR8. What do I say? Answer: "You are great". U is you, R is are, and GR8 is gr-eight.
  • Remove the P from PINK. What is left to write with? Answer: Ink. P-INK.
  • What sits right in the middle of every HEART? Answer: The letter A. H-E-A-R-T: the third of five letters.
  • Write the date of Valentine's Day as two numbers, the month and the day. Multiply them. What do you get? Answer: 28. February is month 2: 2 x 14 = 28, the number of days in an ordinary February.
