Mall Scavenger Hunt Ideas: how it works

These mall scavenger hunt ideas are 142 scored tasks that buy nothing and bother nobody at work: corridor finds, window and price-tag finds, funny team photos, food court finds and riddle clues. A mall scavenger hunt list of ten is dealt when the page opens. A sixth chip holds 26 finds for a thrift store, each one marked.

Build the list before you leave home

Press New tasks, Lock the ones your mall can answer and Swap what it lacks, such as a fountain, a photo booth or any line marked thrift store. Deal 15 for an hour and send teams of three or four. For a mall scavenger hunt printable, press Print and hand each team a sheet, or Share one link to every phone. Agree a finish time and a meeting spot first, such as the mall directory.

Four rules that keep a hunt welcome

A mall is private property with its own security staff, so their word is final. The tasks are written around four rules: nothing is bought, nobody who works there is asked for anything, everything picked up goes back where it was, and nobody outside the team is photographed. Where a store posts a no-photos sign, write the find down instead.

Tips

  • For a funny mall scavenger hunt list, press Funny team photos: 22 poses, such as copying a mannequin's pose or hiding badly behind a floor lamp.
  • A thrift store scavenger hunt list needs no mall at all. Press Thrift store finds for 26 things to photograph and put back, such as a trophy for something oddly specific.
  • Riddle clues print with the answer beneath each, so read them aloud instead of handing out that sheet.

Questions and answers

How do the points work?

Every task shows its score: 30 are worth 1 point, 70 worth 2, 39 worth 3 and 3 worth 5, such as a shop sign with no vowels in it. The full list adds up to 302. Deal more than a team can finish, so teams have to choose. Break a tie with the sock task: the highest price tag wins.

Do we have to go into the stores?

Rarely. Corridor finds, the food court, the riddles and most window tasks are answered from the walkway. When a task does send you inside, such as the socks, go in as one small team, photograph the tag and leave everything as it was. Nothing is tried on.

What ages is a mall hunt for?

Teens and adults can hunt in teams on their own. Younger players need an adult walking with each team. The 30 one-point tasks suit a first hunt: a mannequin with no head, a skylight, a 'buy one, get one' sign.

How this list was compiled: Written for this page by the Game Night Generator editors. Every line was screened by hand: nothing is bought, no task asks a question of anyone who works at the mall, nothing is tried on, everything picked up goes back where it was, nobody outside the team is photographed, nobody runs, and no store, brand, product or character is named anywhere in the list. Thrift store finds follow the same rule (look, photograph, put it back) and each one ends with '(thrift store)', so a mixed list shows which lines to swap when the route has no thrift store. The riddles are original. Two notes state facts, both checked on 2026-09-18 against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shopping_mall: anchor stores are large department stores placed far apart to draw shoppers past the smaller shops, and a food court is a group of food vendors around a shared seating area. The shape of the traditional game (an organizer's list, small teams, nothing bought) follows https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scavenger_hunt, checked 2026-09-18. No claim is made about any mall's photography rules: where a store posts a no-photos sign, teams write the find down instead. Licence: own work
