How it works

These 88 Christmas questions to ask kids are written for children of 3 to 12: Santa, elves and reindeer, giving and wishing, traditions at home and imagine-ifs, plus a set for a whole class. None asks what a child got.

Around the tree, in the car, at the table

Before the first card, press Topic for a set, and Easy for ages 3 to 6 or Medium for 7 to 12. Santa, elves and reindeer is the silliest: What do reindeer say to each other while they wait on a roof? No card says whether Santa is real.

Holiday questions to ask students

For a whole class holds 20 cards that name no holiday (lights, snow, kindness, the break), so every student can answer: What sound do you hear only in winter? On the end card, Print these gives slips for a jar.

Questions and answers

What are good Christmas questions to ask kids?

Ones with no wrong answer: What would a reindeer training school teach? If your stocking could talk, what would it say? What could you make for someone you love? Each card has a follow-up for a child who answers in one word.

What can I ask a preschooler at Christmas?

Press Easy for the cards written for ages 3 to 6, short enough to answer in a few words: What color would you paint Santa's sleigh? What should go on top of the tree? What would you bake for Santa?

Do the questions ask what a child wants for Christmas?

No. The giving cards are about what a child could make or give: What gift could you give that cannot be wrapped? None asks what a child was given, hopes to be given, or what anything cost.

How this list was compiled

Written for this page by the Game Night Generator editors in October 2026; no question or follow-up is copied from another list. The questions are for children of about 3 to 12, asked by a parent, a grandparent or a teacher, and each has its own follow-up. No card says whether Santa is real, and none asks what a child was given, what a child wants to be given, or what anything cost. Every line was screened against the site's rules for children's pages: nothing frightening, nothing about a child's body, money or faith, no real people, no film, song, book or product named. The 20 cards under For a whole class name no holiday. Levels are age bands set by the editors, not a measurement: Easy for ages 3 to 6, Medium for ages 7 to 12. On 2026-10-02 a script compared every question and follow-up with every other list on this site, and lines that repeated one elsewhere were rewritten. Licence: own work
