How to play

Read a riddle aloud and spell out the capitals, or pass the screen around. Every letter is used once and none is added. Show answer opens the answer and the letters the two share. Pick 10 new riddles deals ten more.

Sets and levels

The menu under the button keeps one set. One word into another hides a word inside a word. A phrase into a word closes two words up into one. Scrambled letters is a jumble with a clue. Choose More filters in that menu for Level, which goes by the length of the answer: five letters or fewer, six or seven, eight or more.

Tips
  • Stuck? Write the letters in a circle. A new order shows up faster than in a row.
  • Print gives a sheet with a line under each riddle and the answers on a page of their own.

Questions and answers

What is an anagram riddle?

It is a riddle whose answer is spelled with the letters of another word or phrase, each used once. The clue says what the answer means. A place to swim hides in LOOP: the answer is POOL.

What are some easy anagram riddles?

Start with four letters. A bump in the mashed potatoes hides in PLUM (LUMP). A thick, chunky soup hides in WEST (STEW). What your ears do hides in HARE (HEAR). The Easy level holds the answers of five letters or fewer.

How do you solve an anagram riddle?

Read the clue first and guess the kind of word it wants. Then try the common endings in the letters, such as ING, ER or TION, and build the rest around them. Saying the letters aloud helps a group join in.

What are some hard anagram riddles?

Long words with a second word inside. Faster than sound hides in PERCUSSION (SUPERSONIC). A talk between two people hides in CONSERVATION (CONVERSATION). A large group of musicians is spelled with the letters of CART HORSE (ORCHESTRA).

How this list was compiled

Written by the Game Night Generator editors on October 3, 2026: 120 anagram riddles in three sets, each a clue and some letters in capitals. Every pair was compared letter by letter by a script on the day it was written, so each answer uses every letter shown once and no other. Every word shown and every answer is a headword, or a plain plural, past or -ing form of one, in the word list of Webster's New International Dictionary, Second Edition (1934), which is in the public domain. The jumbles of the third set were shuffled by the same script until no letter pair at the start or the end gave the word away and the jumble was not itself a word of that list. Anagram pairs are facts of spelling and belong to nobody; a few here, such as LISTEN and SILENT, are old favorites. The clues are the editors' own, and none was copied from a puzzle book or a list. The levels go by the length of the answer and are the editors' own: Easy answers have five letters or fewer, Medium six or seven, Hard eight or more. Licence: own work
